Joe and Cate were married on July 21st with a ceremony at Christ the King Church in Old Lyme, CT and a reception at The Saybrook Point Inn.
From the bride –
Joe was working on Plum Island and I had a summer internship there between undergraduate and grad school. We had the summer of our lives getting to know each other and fall in love. I left for Ireland for grad school in the fall and Joe bought a ticket to see me within the first month!
During the first summer we met, we used to kayak out to this island and search for sea glass. Four years later on the weekend my parents sold their house to move to Pennsylvania, we kayaked out to that island again. Little did I know Joe had hid the ring in a cooler. When we made it to the island I was exhausted and sat on this log, while Joe was fussing with the kayaks. He somehow grabbed the ring and got down on both knees (because of the sand) and asked me to marry him!
Their wedding day was a gorgeous summer day in Connecticut, with soft billowing clouds sailing by. I started the wedding preparations with the ladies in the Saybrook Point Inn bridal suite and my second shooter, Irena, started with the fellas in another room at the Inn. Once all preparations were finished, we headed straight to the church.
Christ the King Church is a simple and elegant church close-by to the Inn. There was a special moment in the church when the priest said a prayer and the entire wedding party closed their eyes with him. You could feel the love and blessings spilling out around the couple and that moment was one of my favorites from the ceremony.
Once the ceremony concluded, everyone headed back over to Saybrook Point Inn. Joe and Cate decided to take a boat ride from church to the reception to celebrate their newlywed bliss in style. Cate’s aunt and uncle were gracious enough to not only captain the boat but also gift the couple the biggest bottle of Moet and Chandon champagne that I have ever seen. We snapped some photos of the couple enjoying their boat right to the Inn and finished with an epic Jack and Rose Titanic photo on the bow of the boat. Have I told you yet how much fun Joe and Cate are together?!
Joe and Cate shared their first dance as husband and wife to “ Tenerife Sea” by Ed Sheeran. In a lovely gesture of enduring love, the couple dedicated the song, You’re my inspiration by Chicago, to both sets of parents because they both had chosen that song for their first dance when they were married! That was such a special little tribute to their parents and shows just how amazing Joe and Cate are together.
Some of my favorite images of the whole night were when we went outside for more portraits of the bride and groom before sunset. A storm was coming and the sky was getting dark and windy. I always think moody skies by the ocean create such a dramatic and epic setting! Joe and Cate agreed, explaining that they fell in love in Ireland where its mostly grey/rainy and that they are looking forward to their honeymoon there as well.
Joe and Cate, your wedding day was an amazing celebration and a true reflection of the type of people you are. You are two of the most down to earth, caring and hilarious people I know and I am so glad to call you friends.
