Paul and Rebecca were married on October 7th with a ceremony at the Watch Hill Chapel and a reception at The Westerly Yacht Club.
Paul and Rebecca chose The Westerly Yacht Club as their venue for numerous reasons. Rebecca’s parents had their reception there and when Rebecca’s father passed away, he wanted to be buried close by with a view of the Club. It was one of his favorite places and of course Rebecca loved that he would be close to her on her wedding day.
On the day of the wedding, my second shooter, Irena, and I started out in Westerly to photograph the final preparations before the ceremony. I met Rebecca at her sisters house and photographed her stunning details and her last moments before becoming a wife. Once Rebecca was ready, we traveled down the street to Watch Hill to get ready for the ceremony.
A beautiful ceremony took place and the newly married couple exited with their maid of honor and best man in a Volkswagen Thing by driving down the street to the Watch Hill Light house for photos. After family photos, we drove back to The Ocean House for photos of just the bride and groom together for the first time as husband and wife. Rebecca pulled the Thing into the driveway like an old pro and they saw a few of their guests. I overheard Paul telling the couple the story of the car and how it was Rebecca’s late fathers. Everything was preserved just the way he left it, complete with a cigar half smoked. I thought it was such a fun way to honor him by having Rebecca drive his antique car as a formal exit from the ceremony.
They made one last stop to the cemetery where her father was buried to celebrate with him on her wedding day. They honored him by opening a bottle of Seagram’s VO, his favorite whiskey and having a drink celebrating his life. They invited me over for a drink to cheers him and it was one of the most intimate and special moments I’ve ever had the pleasure of being apart of it. They finished off the night with their closest friends and family overlooking the water at the Westerly Yacht Club.
Rebecca and Paul, it’s been so fun getting to be apart of this journey with you! From our winter engagement session in Boston until now, I’m so glad to call you friends.
Ps. Paul – I’ll see you on the SnapFace soon!
