Megumi and Chris were married on August 16th with a ceremony and a reception at The Saybrook Point Inn in Old Saybrook, CT.
The couple met as seniors in high school (class of 2008)! Their close friends were dating at the time and they started hanging out a bunch which led to dating and then falling in love…
When I asked Chris how he proposed he told the absolute sweetest story:
” Megumi was traveling back from her cousin’s college graduation as I set up a scavenger hunt around our neighborhood, a series of clues ending with me proposing. Megumi arrived VERY EARLY, foiling my plans to make everything perfect, so I had to race back to our apartment and meet her there. She noticed I was sweating considerably and out of breath, and she (correctly) guessed that something was afoot. She followed the clues and I proposed to her in a neighboring field. I cried the whole time and Megumi didn’t understand me when I asked her to marry me, but she inferred it soon enough.”
The wedding day started with rain and continued right up to the couples’ first look. The rain stopped and they were able to get to the docks overlooking the water and share a very special few moments together alone before the ceremony.
The ceremony happened right by the water with cloudy skies behind them but no rain in sight. They shared a beautiful ceremony on the water and then guests headed to cocktail hour to enjoy hors d’oeuvres and drink champagne in celebration of the newly married couple.
Megumi and Chris shared their first dance as the sun was setting. They chose to dance to ” Bridge Over Troubled Water” by Simon and Garfunkel. That was a song that not only was super special to the couple, but Megumi’s father loves it as well. The couple honored their families in such beautiful ways throughout the whole day. In each center piece there were”hidden” red cranes (red is a lucky color in asian culture, and the crane pays homage to Megumi’s asian roots and her time spent in Japan). Chris also visited Megumi in Japan during the first couple of years of dating, so it is a special place for them both. Additionally, the tiles on each person’s place-setting was hand made by Chris’ mom who is an artist.
Megumi and Chris, I have enjoyed all my time with you and am so excited to watch your story unfold! Thank your for inviting me into your heart!
xx,
